What is Parent Café?

Parent Café is a program associated with the Kentucky Strengthening Families Initiative that aims to transform the relationship between parents and caregivers through discussions around Protective Factors and how they relate to families. This program provides an engaging and supportive environment where parents and caregivers—defined as any adult caring for a child—can learn from one another. The program utilizes conversation decks, created by parents, during Parent Café sessions to facilitate discussions centered around one of the six Protective Factors. This approach enables caregivers to relate that factor to their personal experiences while fostering dialogue on how they can integrate it into their families.

The purpose of this program is to foster a safe, welcoming, and inviting atmosphere where caregivers can connect through meaningful conversations and learn from one another. Participants can anticipate the following benefits:

  • Enhance their resilience by identifying their strengths, needs, and challenges.
  • Form connections with other caregivers.
  • Discover resources that can assist their families.
  • Develop Protective Factors for both caregivers and families.
