APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT–  The Bourbon County Health Department operates under the Local Health Department Merit System Regulations as administered by the Department for Public Health.  All applicants for classified positions will be reviewed and qualified by the Department for Public Health Personnel Branch.  The regulations may be viewed at .

The Bourbon County Health Department is accepting applications for contractual employment of a full time Community Health Education Specialist.


General Duties include:  Responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to, leading the health improvement strategy for Bourbon County.  This position includes: facilitate coalition workgroup meetings established by the community health assessment that include health and safety priority areas that may relate to, but not limited to, mental health, substance use/drug overdose, safety, and chronic disease prevention; develop meeting agendas, minutes and other related materials for workgroups; facilitate the strategic planning process to develop goals/objectives/activities for the workgroups; assist in the development of a 5-year Community Health Improvement Plan; monitor and report progress on Community Health Improvement Plan initiatives; facilitate the process to identify and recruit community champions and community stakeholders for workgroup subcommittees; facilitate partnerships to advance coalition work; promote the coalition through a variety of media outlets.  Additionally, provide health education presentation programs/activities related to tobacco education, teen pregnancy/STI prevention, communicable disease prevention education and other health and safety priority areas to the schools and the general public; serve as maternal and child health coordinator to support activities for program packages; participate in workforce development and other internal planning processes; represent Bourbon County Health Department at health fairs and other community events; assist with grant writing and grant application process; work on policy development to improve the overall health of the community; perform other duties as assigned.  Reports to the Public Health Director.

 Minimum Education, Training or Experience: 

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in the field of public health, health and human services, or other related field that may be applicable.

 EXPERIENCE: Must have two (2) years of health, human services experience. 

SUBSTITUTION FOR EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in related services fields will substitute for one (1) year experience required. A professional license in the health or human services fields will substitute for an additional year of experience. 

Special Requirements:  (Age, Licensure, Regulation, Etc.)  Must have a current driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current vehicle insurance. 

Starting Salary:  $16/hr – May be adjusted at agency’s discretion based upon additional education, experience, licensure, certifications, etc. Agency Benefits provided.
